Have you ever watched someone make one destructive decision after another and wondered what in the world is going on? This person may not be using good judgment because a spirit of error may have blinded them. One of the first ways we identify the spirit of Error at work in someone, is when they refuse to listen to good counsel. The Spirit of Truth makes us humble and the spirit of error makes us prideful. This spirit loves to partner with other demonic ruling spirits such as a haughty spirit (pride), lying spirit, perverse spirit, spirit of divination, familiar spirit, and a spirit of heaviness and an anti-Christ. See any of these spirits at work in someone you love?
Be patient with them if you do, because God will show you how to help deliver them, and it may take time. We must learn to stay consistent in our love for people, while remaining steadfast, unwavering and constant for their deliverance. We should never tolerate the darkness that is attempting to overtake them, as Hell has no middle ground with us and we cannot have any middle ground with it. We are to be on the offensive against such evil, as the Lord reveals to us his plan of salvation and deliverance.
Just as Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, hell's counterpart is the spirit of Error.
WALKING IN LIGHT AND TRUTH
2 Cor. 4:1-4 Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.  Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.  The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
As people of light, we must never entertain using shameful ways to get our point across. We must always trust God to help people in their weaknesses, while we too stay vulnerable, open and honest with the Lord. Closing our hearts off in any way must be guarded against, as this leaves room for the spirit of Error to come in.
Many times people err as they come into wrong relationships. Pray those wrong relationships right out of their life.
Prov. 1:10 My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them!
REMEMBERING YOUR AUTHORITY
Matthew 18:18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Picture for a moment how your command of scripture to bind that devil sends the angels of the Lord to act upon the Word of the Lord, that you declared out.
Psalm 103:20 Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands.
Berean translation Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength, who do His word, who hearken to the voice of His command.
I do not believe we understand how important it is to take this scripture literally as we command hell to loose its grip on those we love. I'm convinced that so many people believe if they leave hell alone, it will leave them alone, and that's such a deception. Hell is glad when you believe this lie, because it keeps you trapped in passivity.
If people could see the error they would act on it. This is how deceptive this spirit is. Judgments are clouded where this spirit is concerned. This is why we must be patient as Holy Spirit knows exactly how to counteract this spirits ways. It is a dark and twisting spirit, so sometimes patience is necessary to combat it, as Holy Spirit may give you one enlightening word to give the person. That one word may turn the light on for them. At other times you may need to aggressively attack it in intercession and prayer. Whatever the strategy, we must always be led by the Spirit, as he knows and searches out all things.
2 Peter 3:17 TLV As for you, divinely loved ones, since you are forewarned of these things, be careful that you are not led astray by the error of the lawless and lose your firm grip on the truth.
Another translation also warns us to not lose our sure footing in how God has already established us in Truth. We must hold fast!
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Now, brothers, I must remind you of the Good News which I proclaimed to you, and which you received, and on which you have taken your stand,  and by which you are being saved — provided you keep holding fast to the message I proclaimed to you. For if you don’t, your trust will have been in vain.
Staying consistent to the reading of Word of God and being patient with people in error is paramount to seeing things turning around for them.
I believe this to be a key scripture in understanding more about deceptive spirits.:
James 1:21- Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.  Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.  So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.  For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.  You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
Love them in prayer and in deed as you allow God's Word, his angels and his Spirit to do the work of salvation and liberty.
1 Peter 4:8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
Because this spirit use darkness as a cloak, we must be reminded to stay attached to the Word of God. Reading the bible keeps things straight and clear for us, as the spirit of error is a tempting, alluring, twisting and perverting spirit that will attempt to use anything in a person that is not completely aligned to truth.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Never forget that this spirit is a lurking spirit that works very subtly and is very patient, waiting for opportune moments and times of weakness.
Luke 4:13 NIV When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
The message translation, says
The Devil retreated temporarily, lying in wait for another opportunity.
Hell is cunning dear ones, and is always roaring around seeking to devour someone. It has learned the art of being patient, so we must be even more keenly aware and alert against it's devices, and staying in the scriptures is one of the best ways to stay vigilant.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR ADVERSARY
This spirit will manifest in many ways in people. Here are some of the ways it may present itself in someone you love.

As Unsubmissive - Proverbs 29:1, 1 John 4:6
As Unteachable - Proverbs 10:17, 12:1, 13:18, 15:10, 12, 32, 2 Timothy 4:1-4, 1 John 4:6
As False Doctrines - 1 Timothy 6:20-21, 2 Timothy 4:3, Titus 3:10, 1 John 4:1-6
As Servants of Corruption - 2 Peter 2:19
As Contentions - James 3:16
As New Age Concepts - 2 Thessalonians, 2 Peter 2:10
This spirit is also very defensive and argumentative; it will defend itself by saying, God revealed this to me personally.
PRAYER
Father thank you for giving us a sure foundation to stand on in a world of error and deception. Thank you for your word to guide us into truth and freedom. We now use that word to set your people free. So according to Mathew 18:18, I bind the spirit of error and nullify all of its operations against_________________ (name them). I command this spirit to let go of _______. I now send your Light and Truth God to loose them from all blindness and deception, I command all cloudiness to dissipate and cloaks of darkness to be removed from their hearts and minds now in Jesus name. I command the recovery of sight to come forth now in Jesus name. Thank you Lord for setting them free and thank you Holy Spirit for helping them overcome in this life in Jesus name.
